Like many music loving Australian kids, I grew up watching the Aria Awards on TV. It’s almost like the Australia Grammy awards (ok, maybe that’s exaggerating a little bit) but that’s about how special I felt when I was invited to go along to the awards ceremony on Wednesday 27th November.
A long red carpet lined the foyer of the Star Casino in Pyrmont, Sydney. However, rather than walking the red carpet (#goals) I had to run through the carpet and race to the ballroom as I was running late. Not exactly the best start to the night.
However, once I was inside the room, taking in the extravagant stage and set, the hundreds of people dressed in fancy clothes, I was very grateful to be here and it was safe to say that was probably one of the coolest experiences to have while being an intern!
We watched performances from Tones & I, The Hilltop Hoods, Dua Lipa (my personal favourite), Halsey, Khalid and many more.
Having an event like this purely to appreciate and recognise the incredible Australian musicians we have is fantastic. We need every opportunity like this to showcase the incredible home grown talent.
Notable wins were Tones & I who won 4 Aria Awards including Best Female Artist. Her speech was inspiring, noting how she is so happy that Australia can accept her “just the way she is” and that she bends the ‘female artist’ stereotype so much but that doesn’t matter, because what matters is the music….oh and being a good person.
Overall, this was an incredible event and even when I sat next to someone who had been to the Arias 19 times now…I felt more inspired than ever to continue to develop my career in the music industry.
